Paul William Patterson, 78 years old, passed away on September 20, 2021 from Alzheimer's . Born September 30, 1942 in Hammond, IN to Harold and Dorthea Patterson. Paul graduated from Hammond Morton High School and attended Hanover college.

He started his coaching career at Spencer High School, followed by Somerset, KY, Amelia, OH, Northwest Missouri State University and Ashland, KY, before going to Taylor University and coaching there for 34 years.

He achieved many awards in his career. He accomplished many things while at Taylor University for 34 years. He had 734 wins while at Taylor. At the tine of retirement, this established him as all time winningest head coach at a 4 year Indiana college. He recorded 28 winning seasons, 15 conference championships, 14 NAIA National Tournament appearances, including a trip to the 1991 NAIA final four, 12 Coach of the Year honors and 1991 National Coach of the Year award, and every player who played 4 years under him at Taylor received their degree.

He was blessed with a loving wife and family for 53 years. He married Phyllis Gene (Taylor) Patterson on august 10, 1968 in Spencer , IN.

Paul is survived by his wife; son, Shannon; daughter, Michelle Bombel (|Chris); two grandchildren, Maddie and Emily; brother Steve (Marcia); sister-in-law, Pam; and several nieces and nephews. Paul was preceded in death by his parents and twin brother, Karlos.

Family and friends may show their love and support from 4-8 pm on Monday September 27, 2021 and from 10-11 am on Tuesday September 28, 2021 at Jones Crossing Banquet Center in Mooresville, IN. A celebration of life service will be held at 11 am on Tuesday September 28, 2021 at the banquet center. Paul will be laid to rest at Forest Hill Cemetery in Greencastle, IN following the service. Memorial contributions may be made in Paul's memory to Alzheimer's Association, 50 E. 91st Street, Indianapolis, IN 46240 or the Indiana Basketball Hall of Fame.
