At 12:32 p.m. on October 14, 2021, Doris Eileen Ferguson, age 93, of Stronghurst, Illinois, peacefully passed away to join her husband Charlie in eternity. She was born February 21, 1928 in Stronghurst, the daughter of Cecil and Gertrude Wolford Kemp. On April 27, 1945, she married the love of her life, Charles Ferguson, in Carthage. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1997.

Doris attended Stronghurst elementary and high schools. She assisted her husband in the operation of Charlie's Grain Bins for 40 years. In her younger years, she enjoyed bowling at the former Country Fun Bowling Center, playing cards, and babysitting for Don and Loretta Morris' children: Brenda, Linda, Todd and Missy, and Randy and Lori Plath's children: Kimberly and Kristin. She was a fan of the Fighting Illini and the Chicago Cubs. She loved reading and traveling, and had toured Hawaii, Germany, Switzerland, and the Bahamas. The most important part of her life was her marriage to Charlie, raising a family, and spoiling her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly. She was a member of the Stronghurst United Methodist Church.

Survivors include one daughter: Dixie Long of Stronghurst, two sons: Terry (Melody) Ferguson of Richmond, TX, and Alan (Rita) Ferguson of Stronghurst, eight grandchildren: April (Mike) Linneman, Jason Ferguson, Craig Ferguson, Derek Ferguson, Laurie Long, Phillip (Robyn) Long, Brad (Stacie) Ferguson, and Bryan (Anne) Ferguson, eleven great grandchildren: Dillan, Dustin, Dakota, Colton, Chanley, Carson, Regan, Bailie, Rylie, Chase, and Luke, and two great great grandchildren: Easton and Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Harold and Dean Kemp.

Friends may call as they desire from 1:00 until 5:00 p.m. Tuesday October 19, 2021 at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst. Private graveside services will be held Wednesday in the Carman Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Henderson County Library.
