April Jeannette Showers Brown, born June 23, 1952 in Charleston, South Carolina to the late James Douglas Showers and Barbara Jeannette Sutton Showers of Afton, passed away on September 22, 2021.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pete Brown; parents; a son, Sherman Patrick Brown (1971); her sister, Carolyn Showers (1953); and her brother, Jimmy Edward Showers (1993).
She is survived by her children, Stacey (John) Nissley of Churchville, VA, Angela (Mike) Barnett of Crozet, VA, Katy (Anthony) Brewer of Waynesboro, and LeighAnn Brown at home; 8 grandchildren: Benjamin, Mitchell, and Ethan Nissley, Patrick and Logan Barnett, Andrea, Garrett and Pete Brewer; brothers, Doug and Dallas (Wendy) Showers; and sister, Connie Snow.
April was the last charter member of Midway Bible Baptist Church outside of the Pastor and his wife. She was a Sunday school teacher for 19 years, worked in the Junior Church, and was church treasurer.
April was known as Granny Goose on the internet community. She designed, for a number of years, embroidery patterns for home and commercial sewing machines. She then turned to designing dolls' clothes and making them, and she enjoyed repairing composition dolls.
Her pallbearers will be John and Mitchell Nissley, Mike and Patrick Barnett, Anthony and Garrett Brewer. Honorary pallbearers will be Ben and Ethan Nissley, Logan Barnett, Andrea and Pete Brewer.
Visitation for family and friends will be at Midway Bible Baptist Church of Fishersville on Tuesday, September 28th from 6-8 PM. A funeral service will be held at the church on Wednesday, September 29th at 11 AM, conducted by Pastor Richard Owen. Burial will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens on Shutterlee Mill Road, Staunton, VA in the Field of Valor, next to her husband of 48 plus years.
Instead of flowers, she requested instead all such donations go to Midway Bible Baptist Church Building Fund.
