Billy Carter, born March 16, 1948, went to his Heavenly Home on the morning of September 20, 2021 with his family by his side. He was a loving husband for 55 years, a father of three, and an adventurous grandfather to four grandchildren, all of whom he loved very much.
Billy is preceded in death by his son, Billy Carter JR (Little Billy), his parents Carl and Laura Carter, brothers Gene, Junior, and Clyde Carter and his sister, Pat Ussery.
He is survived by his wife Retha, his daughters Lisa (Jerry) Suttles, Anita (Eddie) Crews, his grandchildren Benjamin (Demi) Suttles, Stephanie Suttles, Blake (Hannah) Crews, Brandon Crews, two great grandchildren- Jacob and Grayson Crews; his siblings Calvin Carter, James Carter, Linda Clemons, and Faye Carlisle; Katherine Layne, whom he raised as his own; and Don Carter, whom he loved like his own son; and many nieces and nephews.
Billy was an outgoing, fun loving prankster, who never met a stranger. He and his brother Clyde formed the group "Gospel Believers", and traveled across many states, singing and sharing the Word of God, for twenty five years. He loved anything outdoors, whether it was softball in the backyard, fishing on the Tennessee River, golfing with his grandson, or just spending a day with his family. No matter what he was doing, he always had a smile on his face and a cigar in his hand.
