Funeral Services and a Mass of Christian Burial for John J. Grady, 89, a resident of Davenport, formerly of LeClaire, will be 11am Monday, September 27, 2021, at Our Lady of the River Catholic Church, LeClaire. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. The family will greet friends from 1-3pm Sunday, September 26th at Halligan-McCabe-DeVries Funeral Home, downtown Davenport. There will be an additional visitation at church on Monday from 10am until the time of the service. John passed away Monday, September 20, 2021 at home surrounded by family.



John Joseph Grady, son of James Leo and Mary Leona (O'Connor) Grady, was born August 4, 1932 in Galesburg, Illinois. He married Mary Kathleen "Katie" (Strohman) Grady at Holy Family Church in Davenport. They were married for 62 years. He graduated from Corpus Christi High School in Galesburg. He earned a degree in Business Administration from St. Ambrose University in 1954. In his senior year, he was the State of Iowa President of the National Federation of Catholic College Students Association. He served in the United States Army, stationed at the 4th Army Division Headquarters at Ft. Hood, Texas during the Korean War.



John worked in Sales Management for 62 years in both Iowa and Illinois. He worked for the following companies: RCA Sales Corporation, Klaus Distributing Company and Hampton Distributing Company. He was involved in many activities and organizations as well. John was a 25-year member of the Davenport Rotary Club. He served as president in 1990. He earned a Paul Harris Fellow award. He coached for many years in DAD's Club. John was the public address announcer for Assumption High School athletic events in the 1980's. He was well known as "The Voice of Assumption". He was a proud recipient of the Ray Ambrose award. John served on multiple school boards and church parish councils.



Katie and John were blessed to have six children, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren: Kathleen Marie, who passed away at birth, John Patrick Grady and son John Thomas (JT) and daughter Nancy, all of Paxton, IL. Patricia Anne Grady (Mike Hansen) and son George Holoubek III and daughter Samantha Holoubek, all of Davenport, IA. Timothy Michael Grady and daughter Jessica Abshire, great grandchildren Jessie and Shane Abshire all of Houston TX, and son Kristopher Grady (Cara) with great granddaughter Caroline of Castle Rock, CO. Thomas Joseph Grady, passed away in 2012. Robert Leo Grady (Natalie) Kona, HI.



John was a big Cubs fan. He loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes and Notre Dame football and basketball.



John was preceded in death by his wife Katie (Strohman) Grady, daughter Kathleen Marie and son Thomas Joseph. His parents James and Leona, brothers Bob and Ed and sister, Mary Gavin.



The family wants to thank Heartland Hospice for their compassionate care and support.
