Nathaniel Isaiah (Nate) Stephens was born on November 19, 1951 to the union of Nathaniel and Catherine Dowdell Stephens at Fairmont General Hospital in Fairmont, West Virginia. Nate past to his heavenly home on September 21, 2021

Nathaniel (Nate) received his formal education from Farmington High School in Farmington, WV, where he served as president of the student body; and lettered in football, basketball and track. He was also selected to the National Honor Society. Growing up in the #9 mining camp there were many friends to explore the surrounding countryside with on Sunny Days of Summer. He furthered his education at West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV where he attended on a full football scholarship.

Nathaniel (Nate) accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 12 and united with New Salem Baptist Church in Farmington, WV. While in Arkansas, he attended Longley Baptist Church and served as an Usher. He then attended St. Mark Baptist and served faithfully until his move to Spring, Texas in 1997. He started attending the Community of Faith Church under Bishop James Dixon until he found and became a devoted member of St. Paul Baptist Church, later to become Impact Church of The Woodlands under Dr. Roche Coleman. At Impact, he served the Lord with all his heart through the Usher Board and Men's Ministry and was later ordained a Deacon on June 1, 2014.

Nate was formerly married to Pamela Dalton in West Virginia, and to this union they were blessed with one child, Secily Simone Stephens. On December 5, 2004, he was united in holy matrimony with Sherry L. Freeney and they became a blended family with two sons, Quenton and Brian Freeney.

Nate was employed by Entergy Services, Inc. in The Woodlands, Texas as an Operations Superintendent for 35+ years. He retired June 17, 2016. In his leisure, Nate LOVED and ENJOYED LIFE! He LOVED his Family unconditionally and he loved to travel with Sherry. In particular, his trips abroad to the Greek Isles, Aruba and the awe inspiring trip of a lifetime, the Holy Land Journey and was overjoyed by being baptized in the Jordan River, along with his wife Sherry, sister Monetta and sister-n-law Jeri. Nate also loved the sports of Golf, Basketball, Track and Field and had a true love for Football, the WVU Mountaineers, and especially his World Famous DALLAS COWBOYS!

Nate was a member of AABE (American Association of Blacks in Energy) where he and other energy professionals urged high school students to seek college degrees in the energy field.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Nathaniel and Catherine Stephens, and brother Samuel Stephens . He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sherry L. Stephens of Spring, Texas; daughter, Secily Simone Stephens of Little Rock, Ark; sons, Quenton (Amanda) Freeney of Montgomery, TX; Brian (Bonnie) Freeney of San Antonio, TX; five sisters, Nadine McKenzie of Dallas, TX; Marcel Stephens of Frisco, TX; Monetta Stephens, Terry Waiters and Sherr Stephens all of LosAngeles, CA; three brothers, Donald (Adrian) Stephens of Jamaica, NY; RD and Doug (Lisa)Stephens of Fairmont, WV; and sister-in-law, Jeraline Rogers of Channelview, Texas, He also leaves eight grandchildren, D'Niyah Simone Palmer, Javia Nathaniel Jacobs, Christian Jordan Andrews, Julian Bernard, Davian Ronald and Rian Nathaniel Freeney, Alyssa Renee and Brayden Edward Freeney. A big beautiful host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, friends, and acquaintances .

Pastor Roche Coleman and our Impact Church of The Woodlands family, we deeply appreciate the love, compassion and kindness you've always shared. You are truly amazing and Nate felt the love and prayers of you all. Pastor Frank McGee, words cannot express the gratitude I have in my heart for you. We've prayed, cried, and though it was a little tough, we even managed a laugh or two through the mist of the pain. Thank you and Sister Pat for your encouraging words and mini concerts. To our many, many friends, Nate touched the lives of many and we pray that God will bless and continue to bless each and every one of you abundantly.
