AMY BELLE ALEXANDER
Amy Belle Alexander, 95, a resident of the Forest Grove community, died Saturday evening, September 22, 2007 at The Gardens Residential Care Facility in Forest Grove.
A Celebration of Amy's Life will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2007 at 1:00 PM at the United Church of Christ, 2032 College Way in Forest Grove, with Rev. Angela Horton Gapay, officiating. Private Interment will be held at the Forest View Cemetery in Forest Grove.
Family and friends are invited to attend a reception immediately following the service, to be held in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
AMY BELLE ALEXANDER was born February 18, 1912 in Carlinville, Illinois, the daughter of Charles Alfred Sissons and Amy Gertrude (Smith) Sissons. At the age of one, she moved with her parents to Saskatchewan, Canada where she was raised and received her education. In 1935, she moved to Oregon, settling in Portland and later in Gaston.
While attending a dance, Amy met James E. "Ed" Alexander and they later married on September 5, 1937. Following their marriage they made their home in the Forest Grove community. Amy was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, on September 19, 1986, after celebrating over forty-nine years of marriage.
Prior to her marriage, Amy worked as the Assistant Postmistress at the Post Office in Gaston. She later worked in the kitchen at the Masonic and Eastern Star Home in Forest Grove for four years before going to work at Tektronix in Beaverton. Amy worked in the Ceramics Department at Tektronix for ten years until she retired in 1982.
Among her interests, Amy was an avid bowler, having bowled on several ladies leagues at Rainbow Lanes for many years. She was an accomplished artist. Amy loved working with watercolors painting flowers and landscapes. She also enjoyed ceramics.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; Charles Alfred Sissons and Amy Gertrude (Smith) Sissons; two brothers, Charles Alfred Sissons and Samuel Orson Sissons and six sisters, Ada Pansey Sissons, Ida Pearl Sissons, Emma Louise Sissons Kidd, Bertha Marie (Bunny) Sissons Brownlee, Mildred Jane Sissons Muirhead and Doris Faye Sissons Haug; a son, David Edward Alexander in 1962; and a daughter, Amy Elizabeth "Betty" Andrews in 2003. .
Amy is survived by a daughter, Jean-Marie Alexander of Seaside, Oregon; three sons and a daughter-in-law, Dwaine Michael Alexander of Forest Grove, Oregon; James Preston Alexander of Forest Grove, Oregon; and Bruce Charles and Julie Alexander of Portland, Oregon; two grandchildren, Anna Kathryn Alexander and James Orion Alexander both of Forest Grove, Oregon; and many nieces and nephews.
