SHIRLEY JEAN WALTERS, 79, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 19, 2021, at Dupont Hospital, Fort Wayne. Born in Connersville and raised in Rush County, she was the daughter of the late Harold and Mary (Curtis) Barber.

She was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Fort Wayne. Shirley enjoyed crocheting and knitting. Her passion for music carried over to playing the piano. There was nothing she loved more in life than her family and spending time with them. She was so very proud of each of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren that she would tell anyone who would listen all about them.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Thomas; children, Vanessa (Duane) Petry of Union City, Brian (Beverly) Young of Frostproof, Fla., Vonda Young of Bluffton, S.C., and Melanie (Mike) Moses of Harlan; stepchildren, Debra (Jeff) Taylor of Laurel and Glen Walters of Fort Wayne; 14 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by her son, Bradley Jay Young; and grandson, Bryan Kolt Young.

Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday at Harper's Community Funeral Home, 740 St. Rd. 930 E., New Haven, with visitation one hour prior. Visitation also from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Burial in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, New Haven.
