Carlos Leamon "Cowboy & Captain" Estes, 73, of Bowling Green died at 7:05 a.m. Oct. 10, 2005, at his residence.

The Cave City native was a private detective and field supervisor for Indiana, Kentucky and Tennessee with Pinkerton Security, a Baptist, a Navy veteran, a member of the American Rifle Association, a former cowboy on an Indian reservation out west running wild mustangs, was an extra in the movie "26 Men", and was a former truck driver. He was a son of the late Samuel James Estes and Lula Johnson Estes. He was preceded in death by a son, Carlos; a daughter, Laura Elizabeth; seven sisters, Betty Jean Brown, Janie Lou Nichols, Jessie Chapman, Mabel and Blanche Brownfield and Hazel and Laura Turner; a brother Woodrow Wilson Estes; and a son-in-law, Robert Harp.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at J.C. Kirby & Son Funeral Home, Broadway Avenue Chapel, with burial on his farm in Bowling Green. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from noon to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Rachel Basham Estes; six daughters, Carla Lee Ward and her husband, Larry, of Cave City, Carman Jones and her husband, Roger, of Dixon, Lisa Jo Harp and Dana Lee Bratcher and her husband, Dewey, all of Bowling Green, Lori Young and her husband, Donald "Bucky", of Smiths Gove; two sons, Don Carlos Estes and his wife, Amanda, and Dan Leamon Estes and his wife, Amanda, all of Bowling Green; a brother, Samuel Estes and his wife Thelma Lou, of Freedom, Ind.; 23 grandchildren, Brock and Karisa Ward, Shawn Byrd, Gene Jr. and Robert Brown, Crystal Summers, Shane and Debbie Jo Harp, Crystal and ALlen Young, Carlos and Barbara Cowles, Jesse, James, Megan and Samuel Estes, Austin and Skyler Bratcher, Ashlynn and Danielle Estes, Vance Joseph Brendle III and two on the way; two stepgrandchildren, Shanna Short and Joseph Dakota Finn; seven great-grandchildren and three great-stepgrandchildren, Hannah, Aliyah, Shawn, Nathan, Abby, Malachi, Alex, Keeley, Dakota and Madison; and several beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
