Charles Samuel Peterson

Our dear brother may be gone from this life, but he will never be forgotten. September 19, 2021 at 11:56 a.m., Charles "Charlie" Peterson passed away in San Angelo, Texas at Shannon Medical Center. Charles Samuel Peterson was born on August 28, 1956 in McCulloch County, Texas (Brady) to Ruben "Cat" Peterson, Jr. and Mary Ruth (Williams) Peterson.

Charles attended elementary schools in Brady, McCamey and Rankin, TX During his years in high school Charles was very active in sports. He participated in basketball, track and field and football. Charles was a captain on the Rankin Red Devil football team and was also selected as a member of the All-District Football Team in 1973. He was also a member of the Rankin Red Devil Band.
Charles graduated from Rankin High School on May 17, 1974. He then attended college in San Angelo, TX at Angelo State University where he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration on August 15, 1980.

Charles returned to Rankin after college and worked for a period of time in the family business at the Exxon Service Station with our father "Cat", younger brother Michael and many other Rankinites who were employed through the years.

He then began a career in the oilfield which spanned over a time period of 30 plus years or more. His employment locations included Eddins-Walcher; Western Service Company; Conoco Phillips (19 years); Atlas Pipeline; Parker & Parsley (currently Pioneer) and Plains All American Pipeline from 2015 to the time of his death.

Charles "Charlie" was an avid fisherman, hunter and gun enthusiasts. He was a member of the National Rifle Association of America and also a loyal contributor to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Fund since 2015.

"Charlie" loved to barbeque and could be found on many occasions cooking not only for the Peterson annual family reunion in Brady, but also for the homecoming football game after-party at the Rankin City Park; the Barbados Cook-off at the Rodeo Arena; for friends and then the "just because he felt like it" times. "Charlie" was the first place winner of the CASI Chili Cook-off competition at the May 1996 "Bardodos Do".

Charles accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at the age of 10 and was baptized by Pastor Shannon at the First Baptist Church in Rankin. Charles was not only a wonderful son, incredible brother, and hard worker; but he was a great friend with a deep voice, infectious laugh and a giant heart.

His untimely death has left an enormous hole in not only the lives of his family, but also in the lives of all who knew and loved him. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Ruben Peterson, Jr. (January 17, 2021) and Mary Ruth (Williams) Peterson (December 17, 2020).

Those left to cherish his memory are his brothers; Edward and Michael Peterson (Katherine); his sisters Pat Chandler, Barbara Bowens (George), Pansy Peterson, Sylvia Euell (Stephen) and Trina Latson (Gerald); nieces Lenecia Nickell (Dave), Karessa Bowens; nephews Shaun Peterson, Schae Summons (Mari), Torre Summons (Tommielee), Anthony Peterson, Bryan Peterson (Kaci) and Xavier Abalos (Hayley); great nieces and nephews as well as uncles, aunts, cousins and extended family and friends. "Peace I leave with you. My peace I give to you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Don't let your heart be troubled or fearful." John 14:27

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm at Harper Funeral Home. Graveside service will be held at Resthaven Cemetery in Brady, TX, at 11:00am on Monday, September 27, 2021.
