Joan K. Spicer passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 18th at the age of 85. Joan was born in October 1935 to parents Jean and Karl Kirch of Camden, NY. An only child, she was beloved by her parents and spent her childhood surrounded by family.

Joan studied fashion merchandising at Cazenovia College after graduating from Camden Central School, and shortly after started her family. Joan and her three children spent their summers at the family camp on Wellesley Island in the 1000 Islands, where her father was a gardener and her mother volunteered at the local hospital. Joan loved the area her entire life and her kids fondly remember the time spent with their mother and grandparents. She would travel there later in life with her grandchildren, passing on her love for the River.

At the age of 35, Joan married her husband, Lloyd, with whom she had two American Eskimos - Puffer and Ripper - and a historic family home in Eagle Village, NY. It was there that she hosted holidays and special occasions for friends and family. When they weren't at their family home, Joan and Lloyd enjoyed camping, and traveled to many areas, including Nova Scotia.

Joan loved crafting, spending many years completing rug-hooking projects, crafting ceramic sculptures, knitting sweaters for her grandchildren, and crafting jewelry pieces. Joan was also an active member of Manlius Methodist Church.

Although she suffered dementia later in life, Joan always recognized her family, always kept up on current events, and was happy to take outings to Camden, NY to plant flowers for her loved ones on Memorial Day, to the store to pick out new clothes, and to her favorite restaurant, Kirby's in Fayetteville. She never missed a holiday and never forgot a birthday.

Joan is predeceased by her husband of many wonderful years, Lloyd Spicer. She is survived by her dear friend, Glenna Sibble; her three children, Donna (Philip Jr.) Norman, Michael (Anna) Parisou, and Leslie Wright; as well as four grandchildren, Tyler Wright, Courtney Parisou, Emily Norman, and Karly Wright. Before her passing, Joan got to celebrate the birth of her first great-grandchild, a baby girl named Ava. She is also survived by her husband Lloyd's children and grandchildren, a family she felt blessed to have inherited later in life.

In her final years, Joan resided at Brookdale of Fayetteville, a memory care facility. The family would like to extend their thanks to the entire staff that gave her exceptional care there.

Joan loved animals of all kinds and her family asks that any donations in her name be made to an animal shelter of your choice.

Calling hours for Joan will take place Saturday, September 25th from 1:00 to 3:00 at R.H. Schepp & Son Minoa Chapel, 6530 Schepps Corners Rd, Minoa. A service will follow at 3pm. The family asks that masks be worn.
