In 1978 he moved to Denver, Colorado. He served as a Sgt in the Army and returned home to finish school with a BA in Civil Engineering. Mike joined the Colorado State Patrol in 1978 Serving for 30 years. Michael was a member of Notre Dame Parish where he served as a Eucharistic minister as well as a confirmation teacher. He enjoyed volunteering at St Anthony hospital as a greeter and a eucharistic minister. Mike loved being outdoors where he could hike, fish and camp. He loved to travel with his wife Libby and spending time with his family was one of his favorite things.

Michael is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Libby" Garcia. Daughters Michelle (Fred) Mason of Mosca Colorado, Elisa Garcia of Lakewood Colorado and Carolyn Santistevan of Pueblo Colorado. Grand children Andrea Valverde, Dominiquo Santistevan, Sydney Mason, Jaron Mason, Kyan Mason, Adelynn Mason and Marius Garcia-Romero. Great grandchildren Zalei Farris, Nesiah Santistevan and Luna Valverde. Siblings Frank Garcia and Lori (Joe) Garcia and many nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his parents Philip and Mary Garcia.
