Schloesser received his early education in Chicago and later attended graduate courses at the Universities of Wursburg, Heidelberg, Vienna, Berlin, Paris and London. While attend school in Vienna he assisted physicians in the Imperial Royal Allgemeines Krankenhaus during the cholera epidemic. In 1894 Schloesser purchased a mining prospect in Lassen Country, California for $10,000. The mine quickly produced a profit of $25,000 per month. He moved to Los Angeles 1909 and worked in real eseate, bond investment and loan businesses. He built a large home in the Hollywood Hills which was named Castel San Sousi. It was a Tudor-Gothic style home with over twenty rooms. The mansion housed several famous art pieces of the old world and a number of paintings by the great masters. The grounds of the castle were designed by Nils Emitalof, a famed European landscape artist and the two lions that adorned the entrance were over 140 years old. The castle also bore the Schloesser coat of arms and inside were a number of marble statues that had been imported from Italy. In 1919, actor Sessue Hayakawa lived in the castle, moving out in 1924. The castle stood vacant for two years and then was taken over by the Temple Israel Synagogue of Hollywood. The castle was torn down in the early 1950s to make way for an apartment building.
