Richard Doyle (originally of Mishawaka Indiana) peacefully left our world on September 18, 2021, to seek divine intervention to help to finish his many unfinished pursuits. Richard was 90 years old and reaching for 91 -his approaching birthday.

Richard first came to our world as a miracle-baby on November 21, 1930, with an unexpected cleft lip and palate birth defect. Several years, countless surgeries provided by the generous donors and providers at Riley Hospital in Indianapolis, IN gave Richard an unexpected chance on life -at a time when Richard's care at Riley Hospital could have meant many meals for others during the early years of the Great Depression. Richard was a miracle-baby and so is his entire extended family. His extended family is eternally grateful for Riley Hospital's efforts and care. Thank you. Please make any donations, if desired, to Riley Hospital in Richard's name.

Richard will probably also be remembered by most as an adamantly honest -sometimes even petulant- artist, who never quite found that 'magnus opus' to claim his mark in our world. Richard's interests were wide ranged: from everyday, useful things like being the go to handy-man who somehow to just knew how to "fix it", to hunting & fishing (always practicing wildlife conservation). Richard also farmed for sustenance, as this was his upbringing to provide for his family and others by all means available.

But Richard's unrealized passion was in the arts and crafts from everyday materials: from the very simple (a properly-made oatmeal), to his Irish/British heritage (home-made dandelion wine), to wood working (hand-carved eagles for the local Boy Scouts), to cabinetry (custom, home-made stools for his toddler children), to leather working (like for horse saddles). And then later in life to learn the banjo. Then when his idle hands needed something to do later in life, Richard started knitting and crocheting -making slippers and scarves for anyone who asked. Richard's interest in life and all its pursuits ran deep.

Richard's surviving brother (Robert Doyle) once claimed that Richard had "more talent in his little finger that he (Robert) had in his entire body". Unfortunately, Richard perpetually moved oftentimes from one artistic medium to the next before completion. So much so that his beloved, surviving sister Eleanor (Browne-nee Doyle) once gave him a special plate named a "Round To It" so that Richard could get "around to" to all those projects he had committed himself to finish, but just didn't have the time. Richard appears to have finally asked for Providence's divine intervention for his many pursuits; Richard was, by all accounts, a stubbornly, proud but never an arrogant individual. Richard just saw things in his own-way and adamantly stood by those trues that he felt to be self-eminent.

Richard Doyle was honestly and lovingly married to Dolores Doyle (who passed 2019) with 61 years: surviving children are (Linda Stevens, Paul Doyle, Paulette Rice, Patricia Lininger and Patrick Doyle) and their children, grandchildren, and now great grandchildren.

Friends may visit with the family from 5-7pm on Tuesday, September 21, 2021, in Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church, 24832 US-12 Edwardsburg, MI 49112. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church with visitation one hour prior to service.
