Ron had many roles throughout the 84 years he walked earth. He started as a brother, an ornery one at that, teasing his sisters every chance he got. Ron worked with his father LaRoy building homes, he was an amazing carpenter. In 1962 he bought into R & M Body Shop, later purchasing it outright to form his family business, helped pioneer Drag Racing and went on to forward the sport of go cart racing, with great success at both. He built the amazing Desperado for Chrysler when monster trucks were the rage and toured with it cross country. Ron was a father to 2 boys, a grandfather, great grandfather, father-in-law, Deacon at the church, fishing buddy and a talent with woodworking. Oh and one heck of a coffee maker.
September 17, at 3:40 pm, Ron embarked on his final role as one of God's Angels, a role he has been training for most of his life. Ron was born in Union City, Oklahoma August 5, 1937 to LaRoy and Lula (Talbot) Wood, and reborn through baptism December 21,1975. Ron had 4 sisters, Shirlene, Bette, Sharon and Patty. The family moved to the Friend area where Shirlene held him as they traveled there by wagon. Patty remembers him jumping into bed with a warmed up brick on a night the wind blew snow into the house and on the bed. Ron loved his sisters and they were his biggest fans even if they were the target of his brotherly ways. From getting them to laugh at the dinner table so their father would send them to their rooms to "not hearing" their yells from the outhouse when a turkey pinned them in. He convinced Shirlene to climb a tree and rope their father, major fail and both were punished. As an adult he nailed shoes to the floor and people's overalls to the wall. The joker continue with his sisters and other members of the family or friends until his last day. Ron graduated in 1955 from Meridian High School in Chickasha, Oklahoma. Ron married Sue McGuire in 1959 He and Sue had 2 sons, Troy Don and (Ronald) Scott. His sons worked with him at R&M as teens and adults. The auto body business led him to meet and marry Joella Fullbright, a State Farm Agent. They married August 25, 2001. They just celebrated their 20th anniversary together. They enjoyed retirement together traveling, playing cards, with friends and attending Parkview Christion Church. He would confiscate the TV to watch his favorite NASCAR drivers on Sundays. Ron belonged to the old man coffee clutch, have coffee with the guys and solve all the world's problems before 8am. He was also the coffeemaker at Troy's Shop every morning. His retirement job that, and free cell champion. He enjoyed coffee and muffins, piddled in the wood shop and helped brain storm problems here and there.
Ron touched a lot of lives, some are greeting his at the golden gated. His father LaRoy Wood, Mother Lula, sisters, Bette Smoot and Sharon Clark. Brothers in law Bo Crawford, Duane Wigley and Bob Clark. Daughter in law Karen Wood and lifetime friend Ted Walker. Ron also leaves behind, but will now be a guardian angel to them many friends and family to include his wife Joella Fullbright, Son Troy Wood and wife Lorene and son Scott Wood. Grand children Russell Wood and wife Anna, Levi Wood, Krystal Wood, Corbin Wood, Erin Benear and Chemae Woothtakewahbitty, 9 great grandchildren, fishing buddies, church family, and many, many friends and business associates. Sisters Shirlene Cozzitorto and Pat Crawford.
Ron had requested a simple celebration of his life, no movies, just scripture, joyous hymns, and of course sharing a meal with family and friends.
