Wayne was born in Dothan, Alabama. He resided in Calhoun County, Alabama and Floyd County, Georgia over half of his life, and later settled in North Georgia.
As a hardworking father, Wayne was the local butcher for many years. He eventually joined the Publix family, which is where he retired. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed many hours with great friends on the golf course. When not playing golf, you'd most likely see him outdoors gardening or playing hymns on the piano while family and friends sang along. He was known for his quick wit, magnetic personality, and infectious laugh.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, Cecil Edward Smith and Opal Alene smith of Anniston, Alabama. He is survived by a sister, Brenda Smith Pauley of Anniston, Alabama, four children, Starla Andrews of Pell City, Alabama, Micah Smith of Canton, Georgia, Stacey Keen (Jerry) of Rome, Georgia, and Ashley Ruth of Atlanta, Georgia and eight grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
The children are especially thankful for the medical staff at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital for the care they provided during their dads last days.
Visitation is Tuesday, September 7th, from 5 to 6 at In His Honor of Jasper, with a memorial service immediately following. ww.intheirhonorofjasper.com
