John served in the US Marine Corp and was stationed in Hawaii when it became a state. Then, he went on to be a press operator for 30 years at General Motors in Parma, Ohio. He was a long-time member of the North Eaton Church of God and an avid Cleveland sports fan. Above all else John loved his wife Betty H. Strickland. Their 57 years of marriage is a standing example of what a God centered marriage should look like. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved Jesus and he lived with confidence, joy, and hope that only Jesus brings. He was at peace knowing the treasures instore for him in heaven and the joy of meeting his Savoir face-to-face.
Left to celebrate his life are his children, Darlene (Henry-dec) Napier, Connie (Lee) Arndt and Annette (George) Runyon; his eleven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Judy (Walt) Markwell, Yolanda (Steve) Henderson, Connie (Jim-dec) Kimmins, Charles Martin (Patricia-dec) Strickland, David (Rhonda) Strickland.
John is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Kenneth Strickland and step-brother, Raymond Atwell.
Private services will be held for John. Burial will take place in Mount Vernon at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in John's memory to Brookdale Medina South, 100 High Point Drive, Medina, Ohio 44256.
