Billie Sue Nelson was born Aug 9, 1936 to the late James P. and Emma Mae (Whitmire) Wilkes in Louisville, Winston, County, MS. Her mother, Emma died in 1943 when Billie and her sister, Joann were young children, after which she and her sister moved to Montgomery, AL to reside with a close family relative. Mrs. Nelson attended Montgomery public schools that included Baldwin JH, and then graduating Sidney Lanier HS in 1954. Mrs. Nelson was employed by the Alabama Power from 1954 to 1964. Mrs. Nelson was a kind, gentle, loving person and a wonderful homemaker and mother. Mrs. Nelson was an avid reader and loved arts and crafts. Mrs. Nelson enjoyed many trips with her husband to the Gulf Coast beaches and to the Great Smoky Mts. National park. Mrs. Nelson was a long time member of Heritage Baptist Church where she was member of the Praise Givers Life Group Bible study class.
Mrs. Nelson was predeceased in death by a son, Barry A. Nelson. She is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years, George H. Nelson, Jr. and a daughter, Melissa Ann "Missy" White (Aubrey) a sister, Joanne Lyerla of El Paso TX, and five grandchildren, Justin Nelson, Christopher Nelson, Bradford Nelson-Greaves, Cameron A. White and Thomas C. White, aunt Grace (Wilkes) Beck, Noxapater, MS, and several nieces and nephews.
