Betty Jean McSwain Farris, age 85, formerly of Bess Town Rd. passed away Monday, January 11, 2021 at Caromont Regional Medical Center. She was born February 4, 1935 in Lincoln County to the late Oliver Victor and Delia Elsie Black McSwain. She was formerly a member of Hephzibah Presbyterian Church and currently a member of Mt. Beulah Baptist Church. She retired from Gaston County Schools.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gene Farris; daughter, Rebecca Jean Farris Fields Mathis; and brothers, Paul McSwain, O.V. McSwain, Jr., Jerome McSwain, Robert McSwain and Jack McSwain.

Survivors include daughter, Wanda Jean Farris Murphy (Charles) of Bessemer City; sons, Kenneth Gene Farris (Donna) of High Shoals and Torben Gene Farris of Gastonia; grandchildren, Michael Fields, Michelle Fields, Darie Mathis, Charles Murphy, Terran Farris and Lindsey Farris; great grandchildren, Raelyne Wright, Kamdyn Wright, Tylan Ray, and Isaiah Ray; and sisters, Kathleen Kinley, Shelva Russ and Pauline Watson.

Mrs. Farris will lie-in-state Saturday, January 16, 2021 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at Carpenter-Porter Funeral & Cremation Services. A graveside service will be held Saturday at 1:00 PM at Mt. Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Fain Farmer officiating. Due to COVID-19, social distancing and face coverings are recommended.
