Mrs. Betty Ralston Payne, age 88, of Rome, went to be with her Heavenly Father September 1, 2021.
She was born May 13, 1933, in Calhoun, Georgia to the late Robert Marshall Ralston and Maude Patterson Ralston. She was a graduate of Sonoraville High School Class of 1949. She retired from The Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency and was a licensed Hypnotherapist. Mrs. Payne was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Rome and a firm believer in the power of scripture, prayer, and positivity. She was also a member of the Western Promenaders Square Dance Club and hospice volunteer.
Over the years, she enjoyed researching her family tree and genealogy to pass down to her grandchildren and family to come. Betty enjoyed cooking with her grandchildren and great-grandson and collecting and trying new recipes. She was an avid reader and felt you were never to old to learn and discover new things.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband and father of her children, William H. Payne; second husband, John Mandragouras; son, William "Dwight" Payne; brother, Ronald "Ron" Ralston.
She is survived by her children, Charlene Payne Hendrix and Rodney Payne; daughter-in-law, Janice Payne; grandchildren, Rebecca Hendrix (Eric) Owen, Matthew Payne, Rachel Hendrix Willis, Patrick (Joey) Collum, Amelia Payne, Emmaline Payne, and Addison Payne; great-grandchildren, Jacob Willis, Madilynn Owen, Harper Collum, Elliot Collum, and Addison Barnes; brother, Howard (Margaret) Ralston; sisters, Barbara (Franklin) Cousins and Linda (Tommy) Dorsey; sister-in-law, Susan Ralston and several nieces and nephews.
Due to COVID-19, the family will hold a private graveside service Wednesday, September 8, 2021, with plans of a Celebration of Betty's life at later time. She will be laid to rest beside her husband William H. Payne in Plainview Baptist Church Cemetery in the Sonoraville Community with Pastor Brandon Bruce officiating. Pallbearers will include Gary Ralston, Gene Payne, Matthew Payne, and Eric Owen. Honorary pallbearers will be Daniel Ralston and Zachary Ralston.
