Alexander Crozier Bell was born 13 July 1844, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pa. 1857 Alex and his family came to Columbiana, Columbiana County, Ohio, his father taking charge of the railway station of the Pittsburgh, Fort Wayne and Chicago Railway. Alex was sent to Mansfield Ohio 1857 to be instructed in telegraphy. Upon returning he was employed at the station as a telagrapher. On the night of the capture of the Confederate raider John Morgan, it was he who, as telegraph operator, was kept busy at the key without sleep from Saturday evening until the following Monday. He was made station agent after his fathers death in 1881. He was elected mayor 1876 and served continuously until 1889. He was re-elected in 1894 and 1895. He was responsible for many improvements to the village of Columbiana. The water works and and electric light plant is built , the town being bonded for $38,000. On November 30 at 7 pm Mayor AC Bell pushes the button and 35 arc street lights are activated. Mr. Bell was also a charter member of the Panora Lodge No 410, Independent Order of Odd Fellows November 18, 1868. He was elected the first secretary of the Lodge. He is also a 32 degree Mason and a Knights Templar. He passed away 23 November 1916 recorded in the Columbiana County Department of Health records. He is buried in Lot 43, an unmarked grave in the cemetery.
