Steven Robert Jenkins, 64, of Barboursville, VA passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, at The Blake at Charlottesville. He was born on December 29, 1956 in Miami, FL and was raised and brought up in Coconut Grove, FL by his parents, Lee Mary Jenkins and the late Robert Calvin Jenkins, a professional baseball player.

Steve graduated from South Miami High School; attended Miami Dade Community College from 1976-1978 with a History degree AA; Florida International University from 1979-1981 with a BA in History; and the University of Florida, the Gators, which he was very dedicated, from 1984-1986 with a BA in Political Science. At the University of Florida, he was in ROTC and was commissioned into the United States Army at the University of Miami. Steve also belonged to the National Guard in Florida and Virginia. He was in the military in Fort Huchua and Fort Bragg NC. Steve served our country in the United States Army as an Army Major and worked for National Ground Intelligence. Steve and his wife, Barbara worked together at NGIC Counter Intelligence and also Central Intelligence Agency.

He is survived by his mother, Lee Mary Jenkins; his sister, Sharon Jenkins; his step- children, Shawn Smith (Stephanie), Adrienne Smith (fiancé, Matt Beke), and Stephen Smith; whom he embraced as his own and loved unconditionally; his step granddaughter Valerie Smith; aunts, Phyllis Rose and Jan Jenkins; nine cousins; one second cousin, Josephine; and his loving cat, Mischief.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his wife, Barbara K. Jenkins; and his dog, Jake who was his constant companion in college and in military service who he loved dearly.

Steve was a man of his convictions who loved his family very much. He enjoyed reading, research, music, politics, Mexican food, and orchids. He will be truly missed by all who loved him.

There will be a wake and viewing, where the family will receive friends, on Thursday, September 16, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Ryan Funeral Home, 12819 Spotswood Trail, Ruckersville, VA 22968.

A Mass will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 at 11 a.m. at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church with Reverend Walter Wagner, OP officiating.

Interment and graveside service will follow at Holly Memorial Gardens.
