Springfield - The Reverend Andrew Jackson "Jack" Matthews passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020 in his home. He was born, July 20, 1925 in a cabin on a mountain in Burnside, KY.


Jack spent his adult life as a Christian minister and singer. He was educated at Phillips University, Enid, OK and Manhattan Bible College, Manhattan, KS. Jack was a member of the Matthews Brothers Quartet.


While serving as a student minister in Conway, MO he met the "love of his life", Jean Williams. They were married November 28, 1946 in a double wedding with his brother Bill and Waneta Davis.


He was preceded in death by his son, Stephen. He is survived by his wife, Jean; daughter, Sandra Lynn Shelley; grandson Jeffrey Shelley and wife Ashley; granddaughter, Alicia Shelley and a great granddaughter Jaclyn Alexandra Shelley. Also surviving are sister-in-law, Waneta Davis Matthews and many beloved nephews and nieces.


Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in South Street Christian Church. Online condolences may be left at www.gormanscharpf.com


Memorial donations may be made to the Pension Fund of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 130 E. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204-3659 www.pensionfund.org. Another charity dear to his heart was the Victory Mission in Springfield.
