MRS. HELEN T. SOPER
Mrs. Helen T. (Crocker) Soper, 88, of 149 Prospect St., widow of Dr. Willard B. Soper, died Sunday in her home after a long illness.
The daughter of Alvah and Charlotte (Bartow) Crocker, she was born in Fitchburg May 30, 1886 and attended Lowe Heywood School in Stamford, Conn. and Briarcliff on-the-Hudson, N.Y. She trained at the Presbyterian Hospital in New York City as a nurse.
Mrs. Soper lived In New Haven, Conn. where her husband was a practicing physician and following his death in 1940 returned to this city where she has been a resident since.
During World War I, while her husband was serving with a medical unit at the front, Mrs. Sober operated a school for children of French soldiers In Etretat, France.
Mrs. Soper was a member of Christ Episcopal Church and the Rectors Service Guild. She was also a member the Oak Hill Country Club, the Chilton Club of Boston a patron of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
She leaves a son, John W. Soper of Farmington, Conn.; a daughter, Mrs. Richard Tyler or New Haven, Conn., a brother, the Rev. John Crocker retired headmaster of Groton School; a sister, Mrs. Shaun Kelly of Boston: eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. in Christ Episcopal Church. The Rev. Alfred H. Whisler, rector, and the Rev. John Crocker will officiate.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Grove Street Cemetery, New Haven, Conn.
There are no calling hours.
