Jose Maravilla Rios was born on September 23, 1928 in Michoacan, Mexico and passed away in Merced, California on August 29, 2021, at the age of 92.
Jose was a very hard and proud worker and instilled this same work ethic to his children, working in the hot harvest fields of California. He loved to watch sporting events, dance, and loved the song "Tu Solo Tu," which was he and Rita's lovesong. He also enjoyed trips to casinos and church weekend retreats. Jose was a faithful member of Sacred Heart Church in Merced.
Jose was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Rita Pacheco Maravilla. He is survived by his children Joe (Teresa) Maravilla, his only daughter, Lupe (John) Maravilla Mendoza, George Maravilla, Louis Maravilla, Andrew Maravilla, Gilbert Maravilla, and John (Becky) Maravilla. He is further survived by his grandchildren: Crystal, Estrella, Angel, Zaida, Thalia, Esmeralda, Sandra, Omero, Aurelia, Rodrigo, Roque, Sharee (Gary) Sok, Amada (Miguel) Radillo; great-grandchildren: Korynn, Gavyn, Damian, Jackson, Tony, Christian, Aliya, and also a new great-granddaughter, due December 2021.
Recitation of the Holy Rosary will be held on Friday, September 24, 2021 at 9:30 AM, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Merced. Interment will immediately follow at Calvary Cemetery. Please join the family for a reception at Club Mercedes, 569 W. 9th Street, Merced, CA following the burial.
