Harry E. Johnson, age 90, of Rittman, went to be with the Lord on Friday afternoon, September 17, 2021, at the Apostolic Christian Home in Rittman, following a period of declining health.
Harry was born on January 17, 1931, in Sterling, Ohio, to the late William and Cora Faye (Coolman) Johnson and graduated from Sterling High School with the class of 1949. He married Dorothy Mayberry on January 3, 1953 in Angola, Indiana, and they have been very happily married for the last 68+ years.
He worked as a Millwright for Morton Salt Co. for 39 years, retiring in 1993. Following his retirement, he started working as a driver for Premier Pontiac in Rittman, and enjoyed it so much that he continued working for them for the next 15 years.
Harry was a member of Wayne County Archery Club, and attended Milton Presbyterian Church in Rittman. He enjoyed bow hunting, fishing, gardening, and was an all-around avid collector of various items, especially coins.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Dorothy, are his daughter, Vickie (Richard) Schumacher of Rittman; sister, Bessie Renner of Rittman; five grandchildren, Lindsey (Nate) Millan of Rittman, Jordan Breece of Rittman, Scott (Kelly Gordon) Schumacher of Columbus, OH, Aaron Schumacher of Staten Island, NY, and Kristi (Dakota) Hoffman of Seville; four great grandchildren, Olivia Millan, Maxwell Millan, Lana Schumacher, and Paxton Hoffman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Judy Bise, his parents, sisters, Melzena Beyner, Ruth Baker, Edith Parker, Zelda Calame, and Lucille Asche, and brothers, Clarence "Brownie" Johnson and Wade Johnson.
Friends may call from 10:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday morning, September 22, 2021, at Auble-Gillman Funeral Home, 360 W. Sunset Dr., Rittman.
Services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday at the funeral home with Rev. Alex K. Barnes officiating. Burial will take place at the Sherwood Memorial Gardens in Wooster.
