DORIS (DEE) DEAN PURKEY BERRY, age 91 of Morristown, passed away Friday, September 17, 2021. Mrs. Berry was a faithful member of Alpha Baptist Church, where she and her loving husband of 58 years, Brownlee "Junior" Berry, were the first couple married. She was active in Sunday school, the choir, WMU, and the Hostess Committee at Alpha. She was a devoted housewife and mother of three wonderful children. Her life was church, family, and friends and to know Dee was to love her. She committed much of her life to the attentive care of others and was unwavering in her devotion to her mother and husband in their final years. Dee enjoyed watching sports of all types, the music of Elvis Presley, defeating her grandchildren at games of Aggravation, and had an unrivaled love of homemade ice cream. Dee adored her pets over the years, and her maltipoo, Pepe Macoco will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by: parents, Claude C. Purkey and Gertrude Watson Purkey; husband, Brownlee M. Berry, Jr.; sister Mary Purkey Dearing; and brother-in-law, E.C. Dearing; brothers Payne W. Purkey and Clarence (Doc) Purkey; and sister-in-laws, Betty Purkey, Iris Purkey, and Alice Purkey; nephew, Jimmy Purkey; and nieces, Mary Sue Purkey Simpson and Janice Purkey. She is survived by: daughter, Judy Berry Hope; son and daughter-in-law, Ronald Calvin and Bobbie Berry, and son, Don Claude Berry, all of Morristown; grandchildren, Chris and Timmy Berry (and Misty Berry), Wes Hope (and Danielle Hope), Shelli Perkins Synamon (and Mike Synamon), Ben and Jeremy Garcia; great-grandchildren, Madilynn and Amelia Hope, Blaklee Faith Berry, Ryan Berry, Isabella and Drake Garcia, Land and Nash Synamon; her beloved nieces, Delores Dearing Coffey, Diana Dearing Carroll, Brenda Dearing Mitchell, Andrea Purkey Bondietti,and Sandy Purkey Lawless; nephew, Bobby Purkey; and several great nieces, nephews, and beloved cousins. The family would like to thank the tireless dedication of the staff at Jefferson City Health and Rehabilitation Center and Smoky Mountain Home Health and Hospice for taking such wonderful care of Dee as well as her family physicians of many years, Dr. Randall Greear and Dr. Blake Melling. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 2pm at Jarnagin Cemetery, for family and friends. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a future date at the Summit at Alpha Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alpha Baptist Church or the Pat Summit Foundation. Arrangements by Westside Chapel Funeral Home in Morristown.
