Bruce M. Allen, Jr passed away after a brief illness on September 15, 2021 just 4 days after his 92nd birthday.

Born September 11, 1929 in Cincinnati, Ohio he moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan during his middle school years and became a die- hard Michigan fan despite moving to Columbus in high school and residing in Columbus for the rest of his life.

A graduate of Bexley High School Class of 1947, he lettered in football, basketball and baseball. He attended Ohio University and became a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He finished his BA at Ohio State in 1951. In 1954, he married Joy (Mahan) Allen, now deceased, and began his career in the insurance business at Insurance Associates. An entrepreneur, his "all-in" attitude involved him in ranching, citrus groves and various restaurants.

He was a long -time member of the Athletic Club and founding member of Muirfield Village Golf Course in Dublin, Ohio as well as the Melrose Club on Daufuskie Island, South Carolina.

Bruce was the quintessential family man. Family and friends came first. His high school and college friends remained friends throughout his life so that he became close to their children making him beloved by so many.

He lived most of his life in Columbus, Ohio but his favorite places were the French River, Ontario and Daufuskie Island, South Carolina making many friends there as well. He was the first president of the Upper French River Cottagers Association and served as president of the Daufuskie Island Historical Foundation.

A kind, gentle man with a wonderful sense of humor, he will be sorely missed by all who survive him:
daughter, son, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, 7 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, sister in law, and nieces.

The family expresses their love and appreciation to Bruce's caregiver, Vida for the loving care she provided so that Bruce could live an independent life.

Memorial gifts can be made to the Daufuskie Island Historical Foundation P.O. Box 52, Daufuskie Island, SC 29915 or The Leonard Dokis Foundation, 302 Charlie's Bay Rd. Dokis First Nation, ON P0M2N1.
