Dennis Ryan Merry, 75, died in Calistoga, Calif., Sunday night of a stroke. He had operated the Blue Front Blacksmith Shop in Billings for many years before going to California. His body is being sent here for funeral services and burial.
Born in Viola, Wis., the son of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Merry, he married Lydia Kiehlbauch at Brockway in 1921. He had been living in Brockway since 1917. He later moved to Yellowstone County, where he ranched in the Pryor and Blue Creek areas. He moved in Bliings where he opened the Blue Front shop in 1925.
He moved to Richmond Calif., in 1941, where he worked in the Permanente Shipyards and later for Pacific Gas and Electric Co., until he retired two years ago. His first wife died in September, 1945. He married Fern Oliver in 1946.
He is survived by his widow Fern; two sons, Clarence of 200 Gotham Park Dr., and Robert of Freemont, Calif.; one daughter Mrs. Gladys Wodhouse of Agnew, Calif.; two stepsons Lawrence Kiehlbauch of Twin Falls. Idaho and Leonard Wilson of Las Vegas, Nev.; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Robert Ross of Reno Nev., and Mrs. Karl Elze of Sacramento, Calif.; one sister, Mrs. Sam Smith of Hope, N.D.; one half brother, Frank Lull of Kalispell; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in Michelotti-Sawyers Mortuary with the Rev. Paul Deane Hill of Central Christian Church officiating. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
