Catherine was born on March 4, 1933 in Marion, Indiana the daughter of the late Chester Arthur Darst and Nova Ruth (Tomlinson) Ellyson. She married John Lamont West on August 20, 1976 and he survives.
Catherine was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints and was a life member of the National Education Association. Catherine taught DOD overseas schools for 19 ¼ years in Taiwan, Newfoundland, Germany, Cuba and Japan. She retired from teaching in 1998.
She is survived by her husband, John Lamont West of Selma, Texas; her ex-husband, Terrel A. Taylor of San Antonio, Texas; a son, Kent A Taylor of Sun Valley, Nevada; a daughter, Melora Magill of San Antonio, Texas; a brother, Richard Darst of California; step-son, Thomas N. Thomas (Thomas S. West); step-daughter, Rebecca L. White; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
Graveside Services and Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
