Marysville - John Alfred Guthrie, age 76, of Marysville, died Tuesday, February 16, 2021 at The Ohio State University Medical Center following a four-month illness. He was a retired associate of Honda of America where he worked in maintenance for more than 20 years. He was also a former associate of Nippert in Delaware. A graduate of Coshocton High School, he was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Marysville. John was a former charter member of Emmanuel Baptist Church of Marysville where he served with the AWANA program. He and his wife, Kathy, and family owned a small farm in Dover Township, where they raised livestock and poultry for many years. An auctioneer, John loved going to sales and auctions.
He will be remembered for never knowing a stranger and for being able to buy anything for a buck and sell it for a big profit. A devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle, he especially cherished being with his family. He was born August 7, 1944 in Coshocton, Ohio to the late Charles and Lillian Dunn Guthrie. He was also preceded in death by an infant son, John Douglas Guthrie; and his siblings, Chuck, Owen, Junior, Gordon and Raymond Guthrie and Ruth Larr. He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Kathy Aronhalt Guthrie, whom he married March 6, 1965 in Coshocton; three daughters, Amy Crain of Marysville, Heather (Thomas) Morgan of Marysville and Debbie (Demetrius Brown) Guthrie of Marysville; his grandchildren, John "JD" Crain, Austin Crain, Diana Crain, Katelyn (Justin) Brown, Madison Morgan and Ashton (Nicole Miller) Guthrie; two great-grandsons, Hayden and Cade; his brother, Harold (Pat) Guthrie; his sisters-in-law, Christine Guthrie, Sally (Denny) Balo, Becky (Michael) Hart, Mary (Don) Shivers and Martha (Steve) Vaughn; his brothers-in-law, Randall Larr, John (Judy) Aronhalt and Scott (Madge) Aronhalt; and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends, including Addy Hollar, Dale (Barb) Whitaker and Steve (Nancy) Murray. The family will receive friends 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday, February 22, 2021 at Underwood Funeral Home, 703 East Fifth Street, Marysville. Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. the same day at Mt. Herman Cemetery. Pastor Jeremy Stout will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made to the John Guthrie summer camp for kids fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
