Estel D. Ballard, 84, of Sandusky, Ohio, passed away early Thursday evening, January 4, 2007, in the Ohio Veteran's Home after a lengthy illness. He was born June 18, 1922 in Robinson, IL. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during WWII, and was the recipient of two bronze service stars and a campaign medal. He worked as a postal clerk in the Sandusky Post Office for more than 20 years, retiring in 1983. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, and a life member of both the VFW and American Legion. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kathleen M. (Hermes) Ballard; son David (Ann) Ballard of Boulder, CO, daughter Kay E. Ballard of Sandusky: five grandchildren, Jacob and Jessica Ballard of Boulder, and Ashley, Brian and Chelsea Glorioso of Sandusky. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Lyle Ballard, and sisters Velma Dearing, Donna Balconi, and Hazel Streng. He was a good and cheerful man.
