Lorraine M, (Cone) Finnerman-Johnson age 94 of Sturgis, Michigan passed away Thursday morning September 16, 2021 at her home
She was born May 18, 1927 in Elkhart, Indiana daughter of the late Chester and Augusta (Havens) Cone.
Lorraine resided her entire life in Sturgis with the exception of 10 years she lived in Saginaw. She was a graduate of Sturgis High School with the class of 1945 and continued her education at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo where she received a Bachelor degree in Physical Education.
On June 26, 2004 she married Horatio "JJ" Johnson at the Kimball Chapel of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. He preceded her in death April 11, 2014.
Lorraine had been involved in Finnerman's Farm and Garden and the St. Joe Valley Golf Club.
She was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis where she sang in the choir for many years and she was a member of the United Methodist Women.
Lorraine was also a member of Neuman-Wenzel Post #73 American Legion Auxiliary since she was just 2 years old, Sturgis Hospital Gift Shop Guild, the Extension Group and 4-C's Craft Club and Parents without Partners.
She is survived by four sons: Maurice (Cheryl) Finnerman of Schoolcraft, Dennis (Nancy) Finnerman of Pasadena, California, Douglas (Eula) Finnerman of Sturgis and Frank (Cathy) Finnerman of Sturgis; one daughter: Ellen (Jerome) Nicolas of Dallas, Texas; 13 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; step-daughter: Christine (Tom) Kane of Lansing; three step-sons: Flip (Penny) Johnson, Dave (Carol) Johnson and Jeff (Jodi) Johnson all of Coldwater; nine step-grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sister: Jean Tozer and June Doolittle and one infant brother.
In accordance with her wishes her body was gifted to Michigan State University in East Lansing. A memorial service celebrating and honoring the life of Lorraine M. Finnerman-Johnson will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 27th at the First United Methodist Church in Sturgis. The Rev. Sue Babb will officiate. Private burial of the ashes will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in Sturgis at later date
