U.S. Congressman. He studied law, was admitted to the bar and moved to Union, Missouri, in 1836 and commenced the practice of law. He was a member of the Missouri State House of Representatives, (1844-48). In 1849, he was elected as a Democrat to the Thirty-first Congress, serving until 1851. After his term, he resumed the practice of law and was judge of the Missouri State Supreme Court, (1862-65).
