Published in the Piscataquis (ME) Observer on 29 Nov 1855 p3: "A SMART OLD LADY---Mrs. Lydia Bowley, widow of the late Joseph Bowley, who was one of the first settlers in the town of Hartland, in this State, celebrated her 70th birthday by spinning nine skeins of yarn, and would have finished the tenth had not her wheel broken. Six skeins we believe is a common day's work. She is as smart and active as she was fifty years ago."
