Ms. Donnie Hayes, age 70 of Ashford passed away early Sunday morning March 4, 2018 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 6, 2018 in the Family First Funeral Care Chapel with the Reverend Mark Redmond officiating. Burial will follow in the Dothan City Cemetery. The family will receive guest from 1:00 p.m. to service time at the chapel.

Memorial gifts may be made to Kindred Hospice, 2740 Headland Ave., Dothan, Al 36303.

Mrs. Donnie was born June 12, 1947 in Houston County daughter of the late John and Beatrice Bond Shelley. She was a 1965 graduate of Ashford High School and a faithful member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church in Ashford where she had served as church clerk and treasurer.

In her earlier years Mrs. Donnie was employed with Warner Brothers sewing factory but her main interest was always her beautiful flowers. She enjoyed working in her flower beds and yard and has shared bountiful flowers with her family, friends and neighbors.

Mrs. Donnie married the love of her life, Fred Hayes on December 19, 1970 after meeting him while he was serving in the U.S. Air Force in 1966. Fred would visit her often at home for dinner and on numerous occasions he would be persuaded to help with the shelling of garden fresh peas and butter beans. She remembered with much fondness the cousin trips with her wonderful Bond family as well.

Other than her parents she was preceded in death by three sisters, Katie Watson, Nell Shelley and Lillie Bell Kimble, four brothers, Jimmy Joe, Ralph, Terry and Marcus Shelley. Survivors include her loving husband Fred Hayes of Ashford, a sister Mary Ann (Willis) Cosby of Abbeville, two sisters-in-law, Betty (Ben) Graves of Cottonwood, Pat (Wayne) Cotton of Crestview, FL, one brother-in-law, James (Lisa) Hayes of Ft. Campbell, KY., and several nieces and nephews.
