Thomas Bill Gibson

Monroe - Thomas Bill Gibson, age 89 of Monroe, passed away on September 12, 2021 at Henry Ford Hospital in Wyandotte. Thomas was born on May 26, 1932 in Sevierville, Tennessee. He was one of 14 children born to the late Horace and Mary (Forrester) Gibson. Thomas proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1951 to 1954. He was assigned to Service Company 505th Airborne Infantry Regiment and 82nd Airborne Division in Ft. Bragg, NC. On January 9, 1954, Thomas married the love of his life, Juanita Ann McKenzie, in South Carolina. They raised a family of five children and spent over 66 wonderful years together before Juanita's passing in 2020. Upon returning home from the army, Thomas worked as a mechanic until 1965 when he went to work as a truck driver for Yellow Freight for 30 years. In his free time, Thomas enjoyed gardening and had a passion for drag racing. He even won second place one time while racing. To cherish his memory, Thomas leaves his children: Shirley (Ed) Massey of Seward, AK, Rita (Kirk) Wasilewski of New Boston, MI, Charles Gibson of Taylor, MI, Michael (Tina) Gibson of Taylor, MI, and Jeffrey (Cheri) Gibson of Hubbard Lake, MI; grandchildren: Anthony, Larry, Chrystal, Emily, David, John, and Marissa; great-grandchildren: Lilly, Amiya, Ethan, Kasey, Cory, Jacksyn, Brooklyn, Olesia, DJ, and Raelynn; brother, David Gibson; sisters: Barbara Colette and Sue Volpi; and a multitude of nieces and nephews. Along with his wife and parents, Thomas is also preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters and numerous nieces and nephews. Family and friends are welcome to visit on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home from 1:00 to 8:00 pm. A funeral service will take place on Friday, September 17, 2021 at Rupp Funeral Home beginning at 11:00 am. Officiating is Pastor Roy Southerland. Burial will follow at Bedford Memorial Cemetery in Temperance, MI.
