Courtney J. Allen, age 38, of Los Angeles, CA, former resident of Marion, IL, passed away suddenly while visiting her family in Marion, at 9:17 p.m. on Sunday, September 12, 2021, at Heartland Regional Medical Center of Marion.

She was born on August 8, 1983, in Marion, IL, the daughter of Jerry Ray and JoAnn (Pickens) Allen.

Courtney attended school in Marion, and was a graduate of Marion High School Class of 2001. She continued her education through the University of Pheonix and received her Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice.

She answered the call of this nation by serving in the United States Marine Corps.

Her working career was with the Metro Mass Transit Service of Los Angeles, CA, and was currently employed as a Transit Security Officer 1.

She was a member of Paul's Chapel Baptist Church of Marion.

During her years in high school, she was very active in basketball and softball. She was part of the team that won the Girls' Softball State Championship.

She is survived by her mother, JoAnn Pickens of Marion; brother, Jacob B. Allen of Johnston City, IL; life partner, Andera Hess and her son, Micah of Los Angeles, CA, half-brother, Denley; two half-sisters, Geri and Tamika along with her two children; aunts, Paula Allen of Marion, Deborah Pickens of Marion, Geri Moultrie and husband, Moses of Marion, "very special aunt", Jackie Monyea of Marion, Dorothy Robertson of Marion, Grace Allen of Johnston City, IL, Elaine Hightower of Marion, Carmen Adeoye of Marion, Sandra Langford and Linda Jackson both of Atlanta, GA; uncles, Jeffrey Pickens and wife, Jamie of Marion, Michael Pickens and wife, Renee of San Antonio, TX, Billy Pickens and wife, Lolita of Marion, Walter A. Allen and wife Karen of Thompsonville, IL, Gary Allen of Marion, Donald Allen and wife, Clarrissa of Marion and Craig Allen and wife, Lydia of Marion, other extended family and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, paternal and maternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.

Due to the executive order by the Governor of Illinois, those attending the visitation and funeral service inside, must wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

The visitation will be on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Paul's Chapel Baptist Church, located at 902 South Monroe St., Marion.

Following the visitation, the funeral service will be at 12:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. Virgil Walton, Jr. and Bishop Donald Allen presiding.

Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery of Marion.

Military honors will be accorded at the graveside by members of Marion VFW Heyde Pillow Post No. 1301 Funeral Honors Detail and members of the United States Marine Corps Funeral Honors Detail.
