Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 18, 2021, in Resthaven Cemetery of Oakdale, LA, for Mary Nell Willis, 86, who peacefully went to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on September 7, 2021. Rev. Howard Varnado and Ronnie Langlinais will conduct the funeral services.

Mrs. Willis, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late James Joseph Wheat and the former Agnes Johnson. She met and married her high school sweetheart, Elbert Ray Willis in 1949.

Mrs. Willis earned a degree and worked as an LPN while raising five children in her 30s but is best known most of her adult life as a Pastor's wife in Pine Prairie, Baldwin, and Lafayette, Louisiana. She traveled extensively in the United States, Africa, Australia, Jamaica, England, and Switzerland with her husband as a Missionary, but was never happier than when she was home with her children and grandchildren.

She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at a young age, raised her children to serve Jesus, and ministered to all who sought her counsel or simply needed to talk and be cared for. Mary Willis was a faithful servant of God her entire life. She was respected and loved by many and will always live on in the hearts of her adoring family.

Mrs. Mary or 'Granny' is how those who knew her greeted her. She had a contagious smile and love of laughter which she generously shared with all who met her. She loved to cook for her family and made a great chicken and sausage gumbo and the best homemade biscuits in Lafayette, Louisiana. She was a gentle, compassionate, and loving Christian lady who exuded a sense of kindness and caring to everyone she came in contact with. Granny's house was always filled with family and friends and lots of laughter and was a favorite hangout for her grandkids and their friends.

She is survived by her daughters, Lori Ann Willis and Angela Willis Stoops (Brad); grandchildren, Micah Willis (Christina), Candace Willis, Kristin Willis, Kara Willis Frye (Charlton), Anna Willis, Aaron Willis (Andrée), Jamen Willis (Nikki), Amber Willis Hebert (Tim), Ian Willis, Brett LeBlanc (Corrine), Jillian LeBlanc Borja (Maka), and Colin Stoops; sister, Ruth Wheat Geaux; brother-in-law, Warren G. Smith; Gwen Willis (Barry), Brenda Willis (Randy), nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces & nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Rev. Elbert Ray Willis; sons, Lynn Ray Willis, Randall "Randy" Willis, and Barry L. Willis; parents, James and Agnes Wheat; sister, Theresa Wheat Smith; and brother, Clifton Wheat.

The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Saturday, September 18, 2021, from 9:30 AM to 11:00 AM. Graveside services will follow in Oakdale, Louisiana.
Pallbearers will be Micah Willis, Aaron Willis, Jamen Willis, Ian Willis, Maka Borja, Charlton Frye, and David Reed.
