He was born May 3, 1932, in Ollie to John Lloyd and Addie Belle Cavin Mitchell.
He grew up in Ollie and Richland and graduated from West Chester High School in 1952. He worked at Washington Ready Mix, Bob Bruty Construction, part time as a farmer and as an over the road truck driver. Gilbert served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War.
Gilbert is survived by one son Guy Mitchell and his wife Diane of Brighton, Iowa, daughter Peggy Gingerich of Wayland, Iowa, Jim Gingerich, Keota, Iowa, two grandchildren: Jamie Kinzenbaw and Jennifer Fagen, three great grandchildren: Jace and Joydyn Kinzenbaw and Case Fagen and one sister Barb Gesling of Washington.
He was preceded by his parents, brothers: Ralph W. Mitchell and Daniel D. Mitchell and sister Francis Lowe.
Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. Friday October 18, 2019, at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton with Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. No Visitation will be held. Burial will be in Schrock Cemetery North of Coppock with Military Honors by American Legion Post No. 29.
