JAMES' OBITUARY
On Sunday, September 12, 2021 at the age of 44, our most loved James Phillip Buchanan of Coal City and formerly Sophia went home to be with the Lord.

The son of Terry and Sheila Buchanan of Sophia, Phil graduated from Independence High School in 1994 where he played in the band.

Phil was loved by all who knew him. He was employed by Affinity Coal Company for many years, and he loved his work and friends there. He loved to cook for everyone and hosted many Thursday hot dog lunches at Affinity. Sunday afternoons were spent cooking family dinners with the whole family together at his parents' each week. Phil loved to bring people together and make them happy. He loved cars and car shows, Rod Run and fishing. And he loved his family and friends fiercely.

In the summer of 2019, Phil gave his heart to Jesus & all who knew him recognized the change. He was baptized on August 25th of that year and never looked back. He was a part of the family of believers at Freedom Ministries in Daniels.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents Geno and Viola Placidi and Robert & Lillian Buchanan.

Those left to cherish his memory are his devoted parents Terry & Sheila Buchanan, his loving wife Patra Buchanan of Coal City, his only daughter Justine Buchanan of Bolt, his only brother Neil Buchanan & Melanie of Sophia, niece & nephew Adriana and Nick Buchanan of Sophia, and his two bonus daughters Kylie & Danni Hensley at home. Uncles Richard (Bonnie) Buchanan, Ronnie (Regina) Buchanan, a very special aunt Anita Placidi & many cousins and extended family.

Phil had many close friends who will miss him so dearly including James "Ozzy" Osborne, as well as Dwayne Makra and Shannon Rakes whom he called his "brothers."

Services will be conducted at the Rose and Quesenberry Peace Chapel in Beckley on Saturday, September 18, 2021 at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Lyndon Lucas & Rev. Phillip Farrington officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Beckley. Friends may visit with family from 11:00 Am until time of service on Saturday at the Funeral Home.

The family would like to extend special thanks to the ICU nurses and staff at ARH Hospital as well as Dr. Irene Wasylyk who fought for him the entire time.

Private online condolences, floral tributes, and other expressions of sympathy may be directed to the family via our guestbook at www.roseandquesenberry.net.

Arrangements are by Rose and Quesenberry Funeral Home, 1901 South Kanawha Street, Beckley, WV.
