GALIVANTS FERRY - George J Cooper, 81 passed away Monday, September 13, 2021 after a long illness. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Devotion Gardens Cemetery. The service will be streamed live on the Richardson Funeral Home Facebook page.


Mr. Cooper was born in Conway, a son of the late Clarence and Ollie May Jackson Cooper. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Lester Odell Jackson and great-grandchild, Mack Harvey Johnson.


Mr. Cooper was a veteran, having joined the United States Marine Corps in 1959, and honorably served his country. He spent 9 months Tour of Duty in the Mediterranean, Italy and Spain. He also served in thirteen countries and four cities, and received two medals for Good Conduct while serving his country.


Mr. Cooper was a former Deacon at Grace Community Church, which he along with five others organized. He was retired from Heritage Sportswear and also owned and operated Cooper's Electric Motor Service. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. Mr. Cooper was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.


Surviving is his wife, Julia F. Cooper, of the home; two sons, Greg Cooper (Jody) of Marion and Randy Cooper (Marcia) of Galivants Ferry; Debra Finney (John) of Galivants Ferry; a brother, JD Jackson of Georgetown; 8 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
