It is with heavy hearts and loving memories we must say goodbye to Jeffrey Gayle "Droopy" Taylor. Jeff was born July 17, 1957, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Delbert H and Hazel Eubank Taylor.
Jeff passed away September 12, 2021 at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky at the age of 64. He lived most of his life in Lincoln County, Kentucky and attended Lincoln County High School.
Jeff worked a variety of jobs that included the Casket Factory, Southern Railroad, Whirlpool, the Crab Orchard Fire Department and EMS, School Bus Driver, Lovejoy Medical, a Fine Arts Printing Service, masonry, a greenhouse, and an expediting company. He once said, "I wish I could find a job that lasts longer than five years because they either close or lay me off."
He found that in 1998 when he landed a job at Bluegrass Tours where he worked until his recent illness. It was at Bluegrass that he made many friends and met Jackie McCloud who has been a daily friend and support.
He had many adventures while driving the tour bus spanning from New York to Florida on the east coast, to Texas on the west and north to the Great Lakes and all the states between. He met many acquaintances and built lifelong friendships during his travels, including shaking hands with two US Presidents and a Prince of Saudi Arabia.
On a recent occasion he shared about sleeping in the barracks at Fort Campbell. He had taken a load of University of Kentucky students to do agility training by the military and he was housed with the sergeant and eight soldiers. He asked, "Is the room COOL?" The sergeant replied. "Yes, it is 75 degrees." "That ain't COOL, Jeff replied, "Take it down to 60." He survived the night.
Even when not touring, he loved traveling with his companion and would often say, "Pack your bag, Mary, we are going to New Orleans by way of Tennessee." He also enjoyed camping with family and friends, at Bug Wood, overlooking Lake Cumberland.
Jeff was an avid NASCAR fan and drove the only charter bus around the Bristol track with a load of cheering passengers.
He is survived by his companion, Mary "Sweetie" Hill of Monticello, Kentucky, two brothers Ken (Barb) and Lanny Taylor of New Orleans, and sisters, Mae Hawkins of Columbus, Indiana, Carol Ann (Lonnie Pruitt) of Crab Orchard, Kentucky, and Andrea (Jamie) Satterly of Shelbyville, Kentucky. Also surviving are an uncle, CL (Carolyn) Taylor and an aunt, Bonnie Taylor, nieces, Sharla Pruitt Higgins, Betty Plaisance, Peggy Taylor, Tonya Akin, and Rhoda Taylor and nephews, Paul Taylor and Shawn Hawkins, great nephews, Harlan Ellis, Cole Ellis, Brett Plaisance, T.J. Taylor and great, great nephews Grayson Higgins and Jackson Ellis.
He was preceded in death by our precious Gary "Bugsy" Taylor, parents Delbert and Hazel, and grandparents Manford and Maude Eubank and Walter and Etta Taylor.
The family wants to thank all those who have sent prayers, concerns, and condolences and special thanks to Miranda Brumbley for visiting Droopy at the hospital which he appreciated so much. He will be greatly missed by family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers as well as many customers of Bluegrass Tours who requested him as their driver.
Funeral arrangements are being made by McKnight Funeral in Crab Orchard.
