Donald served in the United States Marine Corps from 1952 to 1955, serving in Korea. He worked for Wilson Foods in Cedar Rapids until 1961. In 1961 he went to barber school. Upon the completion of Barber School he owned and operated Don's Barber Shop on Church St. for 10 years. He moved back to Cedar Rapids in 1973 and began working for Wilson Foods again until 1990. He then was a barber part-time in Cedar Rapids until he retired in 1994. He enjoyed buying a home, remodeling and then selling it as their family moved from one house to another. He and his wife, Edna also enjoyed traveling.
Surviving is his wife of 65 years, Edna of Clearwater, FL; a son, Daniel Dean Ward of Clearwater, FL; granddaughter, Christina (Jacob) Jenkins; 2 great- grandchildren, James and Caleb; a sister, Shirley Post of Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donnie Ward and a brother, David Ward.
Visitation will be open after 9 a.m. Friday, September 3rd at Reece Funeral home with the family present from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor Mel Kendall officiating. For those unable to attend the service, you may watch it live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery with military honors conducted by Walter B. Shafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B. Nelson Post #3 American Legion.
