A Mass of Christian Burial celebrating the life of William "Bill" Michael Riley, 78, of Newark, will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 10 A.M., Thursday, September 16, 2021, with Fr. David Sizemore as celebrant and Rev. G. Michael Gribble as concelebrant. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Newark.

Bill, a lifelong parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, died at Grant Medical Center on Friday, September 10, 2021. He was born in Newark, Ohio on October 27, 1942, to the late James D. and Theresa (Arnold) Riley.

A 1961 graduate of Newark Catholic High School, Bill was retired from The Newark Air Force Base where he worked in missile guidance systems for over 40 years. As a hobby, Bill enjoyed working with R.C. airplanes and was able to fix and repair just about anything, and for many years, was the owner and operator of Riley Moped Repair Shop.

Devoted to his family, Bill was often seen attending the numerous activities of his children and grandchildren, always with his wife, Mary Lou, by his side. He was also an avid fan of Notre Dame and the Cleveland Browns.

He will be greatly missed by his wife and soulmate of 57 years, Mary Lou (McCabe) Riley; his children, Bill Riley Jr. (Jennifer Albert), Annette (Stephen) Corl, Darby (Luann) Riley, Terri (Jeff) Hempleman, and Rich (Amy) Riley; grandchildren, Tanner, Taylor, Sam, Kevin (Katie), Daniel, Peyton, Reese, Ally (fiancé, Nick), Riley, Cory, Abby, Alison, and Erica (Shawn, and daughter Chloe); great-grand-daughters, Logan and Camryn; brother, Patrick (Billie) Riley; sisters, Ruth Jones, Mollie Overbey, and Teresa (Gary) Grigsby; step-brother, Joseph (Peggy) Servoza; sister-in-law, Cricket Riley; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Brady Michael Hempleman; brother, James "Fred" Riley; brothers-in-law, Ronald Overbey and Dale Jones; step-brother, Chuck Servoza; and step-father-in-law, James (Helen) Voge.
