Jerry Elaine Rutledge, Mom, Grandma and Great Grandma (aka GG) passed from this earthly place on Thursday, May 4th in Topeka Kansas at the age of 73. Jerry was born on November 16th, 1943 in Hutchinson Kansas the daughter of Leo and Francis Evans. She was preceded in death by her parents, and Sister Deanna Simpson.

Jerry graduated from Putnam City High School in Oklahoma City in 1961 and she was married that same year. Two years later, she began her family with Kimberly Elaine. Within the next 10 years adding to her family with Stephanie Dawn and Matthew Dwight. Jerry was a stay at home mom for many years. It gave her the opportunities to become a great seamstress. In many family portraits, you would see matching/coordinated outfits. This would sometimes filter into the families of Jerry's siblings; creating great group Christmas pictures. She was phenomenal cook and had special recipes to celebrate birthdays and holidays that the whole family loved such as lasagna, cheesy grits, gumbo, mac-n-cheese, chicken enchiladas, banana bread, Mississippi mud pie, butterscotch pie and three layer carrot cake with cream cheese frosting.

In 1976 Jerry and her children moved to Topeka where she made her new home the one that was always the place to be for all the kids in the neighborhood. She was always there for her kids and their friends, even when she had to get them through rough times or the trouble they got into. She was known as "mom" for more than just her three children. Even when she became a single mom, Jerry would always make sure her children were her top priority. No matter what, she would always there with a hug and "I Love You!".

In 1979 Jerry started with Kansas Livestock Association. Her main responsibility was printing various documents for the association including their weekly newsletter. She also helped with memberships and records for the association. Beyond that, Jerry also liked keeping busy with other part-time jobs over the years that include The Hat Box- when it was in White Lakes Mall and Brookwood Shopping Center, Schlotzsky's Sandwich Shop, Geppetto's Pizza and Rod's Cards and Gifts. She retired from the working life in 2012.

After she retired, Jerry had more time to do many of the things she enjoyed such as watching NASCAR or all kinds of college sports (especially the University Oklahoma). She also loved reading books; real books not e-books, so she made regular trips to the Library or would trade books with her sister and brother-in-law. She also had time to travel with her siblings and family throughout the years before and after retiring. Jerry loved playing Bunko every month; she was in her group for over 25 years. She enjoyed going to her grandchildren's school activities for sporting events, music programs and any recognition programs but more than anything, retirement opened the doors for unlimited time with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Jerry's family was her motivation. With every breath she took, Jerry was thinking or doing something for them. Her memory will live on with her children: Kimberly (David) Johnson, Stephanie Rutledge-Page and Matthew Rutledge, all of Topeka; Grandchildren: Cassandra, Trent, Jesse, Derrick, Amanda, Madison and Mason; Great Grandchildren: Makayla, Paisley, Aria and Asher; Sisters: Evelyn Bowman, of Oklahoma and Faye Smalley, of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at Penwell-Gabel Southwest Chapel, 3700 SW Wanamaker Road. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday the 10th from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1315 SW Arrowhead Road, Topeka, KS 66604.
