A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Elbert and Glessie Byrd Higgins. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Roger Higgins. Mike was a hard worker who did auto body for 40 plus years and enjoyed hunting, gardening and Chevy cars.
Surviving is his daughter, Laura Higgins of Marion; grandson, Wyatt Monreal; brother, Larry Higgins and wife, Carol, of Burnsville; sister-in-law, Cynthia Higgins of Virginia and special friend, Ola Mae Sheppard of Burnsville. Several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends also survive.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, September 19th in the Chapel of Yancey Funeral Services. Rev. Scot Garland will officiate. Private family burial will follow in the Higgins Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the services at the funeral home.
