LOUIS' OBITUARY

Louis C. LaChance

Age 77, longtime resident of Northville, passed away September 2, 2021. He was born December 13, 1943 in Dearborn, Michigan; son of Charles and Rylma (Ford) LaChance. He graduated from Dearborn High School; Class of 1962. He continued his education at University of Michigan where he earned a bachelor's degree in Engineering and an MBA. While at U of M he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He was also a member of the University of Michigan Alumni Club of Northville. Lou was united in marriage to Cynthia G. Mycek on May 21, 1966; they spent 55 years devoted to one another.

Lou began his engineering career at IBM and soon after founded Nu Con Corporation, an aerospace manufacturing business located in Livonia which made prototypes, production, and turbo machinery. In 1990, Lou sold his shares in the company to pursue his dream of owning a toy store. Ultimate Toys and Gifts was in downtown Northville for 11 years; it brought him great joy and an opportunity to showcase his sales skills. Lou was very supportive of the community and was a proud member of the Northville Downtown Development Authority. He was also a member of Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church where he served as a eucharistic minister.

Lou was a true maize and blue fan -- he loved anything U of M, but especially football. Introducing himself as "Go Blue Lou," he was a season ticket holder and would tailgate before football games with his U of M van. His tailgates always included chicken from Guernsey Farms Dairy, where he had a standing Saturday order, and deviled eggs made by his wife. When Lou wasn't at a football game he was working in his yard or tinkering with the mower. He stayed active by playing racquetball twice a week for many years and kept his mind active with his large collection of tavern puzzles. Lou was a Star Trek and Captain Kirk fan -- he dreamed of building his own Enterprise. He loved dogs; his current four-legged buddy was a rescue named Chewy. Lou and his family would travel to Mackinac Island and the Petoskey area each summer, a tradition that started for him as a child since his father was born on the island. Lou enjoyed spending time with his family and cherished the memories they made.

Louis is survived by his beloved wife, Cynthia LaChance; his daughters, Suzie (Robin Demarest) LaChance, Deanne (Rod) Burch, and Lee (Craig Millard) LaChance; his grandchildren, Alec, Aiden, and Oliver; and his sister, Charlene Potwarka. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Roxanne LaChance, and his brother-in-law, Richard Potwarka.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, September 17, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. with a time of gathering beginning at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Drive, Northville. He will be laid to rest at St. Ann's Cemetery on Mackinac Island.

In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, 3100 Cherry Hill Road, Ann Arbor, MI 48105.
