John Davis Owens, 79, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, formerly of Roseboro, NC, passed away Sunday, September 12, 2021, at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 25, 2021, at Roseboro-Snowhill Cemetery, Marion-Amos Road in Roseboro, NC with the Rev. Gilbert Owens officiating.
John graduated from Charles E. Perry High School. Afterward, he relocated to Baltimore, Maryland. Later he joined the United States Army. After serving his country, he returned to Baltimore, where he worked for Lucent Technologies (formerly Bell Telephone). His job relocated to Oklahoma City, where he made his home until death.
John was born on April 5, 1942, to the late John Wash and Eloise Melvin Owens in Roseboro, NC. He was preceded in death by his wife, Augusta Hanson Owens. Four brothers, Jerry Owens, W.J. Owens, James Melvin, and Lennon Owens. Two sisters Johnnie M. McFadden and Martha A. Mathis, and sister-in-law, Barbara J. Owens.
Those left to cherish loving and fond memories are his only daughter, Dawn Renee Owens of the home; brother Claudie (Sudie) Owens of Roseboro, NC. Three grandchildren, Alexander David Owens, Kasey Allen Bracey, and Kanon Arron Bracey. A very devoted, loving, and special friend Margaret Coats of Edmond, Oklahoma for 29 years and her children who affectionaly referred to him as dad and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
