Wanda Lee (Wilson) Bennett, 93, New Albany, IN, left her earthly life in the morning hours of Friday, September 10th. She was born February 28, 1928, in Indianapolis, IN to Raymond and Clara (Parker) Wilson.

They, with her younger brother Donald Wilson, lived various places around the country when she was a girl but she graduated from Arsenal Tech High School in Indianapolis. During a short stint living in New Albany before that, she met Calvin Bennett. After his service as a Marine in the South Pacific, he went to Indianapolis and asked her to marry him which she did at Central Christian Church, New Albany, in 1946, and he built them a home on Grant Line Rd. Later they moved into a brand-new house on Coyle Drive and she lived there for almost 65 years until she moved to assisted living.

After their youngest daughter was in school, she did clerical work for U S Steel, Pillsbury, and Louisville Label where she finally retired when she was in her 70s. She was active at Central Christian including singing in the church choir for 50 years. She was a regular blood donor (a total of at least 17 gallons) and volunteered with Interfaith Council's Deaf Relay program.

Wanda had a wicked (punny) sense of humor and was a loving friend and neighbor to many. She and Calvin raised three strong daughters and instilled in them a love of education – all 3 becoming teachers. They enjoyed boating, water skiing, playing Euchre and traveling around the country, often to reunions of the 4th Marine Division with whom Calvin served in WWII.

Wanda was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, her husband, a grandson (Andrew Sprigler), and a great-grandson (Calvin Collins).

She is survived by daughters Shari Bennett (John Marsh), Vicki Mannweiler (David), and Gail Sprigler (Chris); 6 grandchildren, Wendy Sprigler (Tom Campbell), Ryan Marsh (Tiffany), Joseph Sprigler (Merideth), Nicholas Mannweiler (Laura), Eric Mannweiler (Michelle), and Evan Mannweiler; 8 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 14th at the Naville & Seabrook Funeral Home located on 1846 E. Oak Street from 4pm to 8pm. On Wednesday, September 15th visitation will be held at Central Christian Church in New Albany from 10am – 11am, followed by the funeral service at 11am and burial at Graceland Memorial Park around noon.
